Loughborough College Sustainability

Leading education to a greener future
At Loughborough College, we’re serious about sustainability. We believe education should lead by example, which is why we’re working hard to reduce our carbon footprint, protect the environment, and inspire positive change.

Our green plans
We have set clear goals to cut carbon emissions, waste less, and make our campus more eco-friendly.
By 2029, we aim to be a leader in sustainability in further and higher education. This means using cleaner energy, reducing waste, and making sure sustainability is part of everything we do.
What we’ve achieved so far
We’ve already made big changes to lower our impact on the planet:
Solar power
We’ve installed solar panels to generate clean energy.
Saving water
Our waterless urinals and rainwater harvesting toilets help cut water use.
Recycling
We’ve placed recycling bins across campus to reduce waste.
Energy efficiency
Light sensors help us save electricity in unused spaces.
Greener travel
We’ve added electric vehicle charging points and encourage walking, cycling, and public transport.
Sustainability committee
Students and staff meet regularly to drive change.
Carbon literacy training
We’re teaching people how to make greener choices every day.
What’s next?
We’re not stopping here. Our future plans include:
- Building the EMIOT Centre, a self-sufficient, eco‑friendly space for learning.
- Cutting waste even further with better recycling schemes.
- Expanding carbon literacy training so everyone understands their role in sustainability.
- Continue working with local businesses and the community to support a cleaner, greener world.
Be part of the change
Sustainability isn’t just a plan — it’s a mindset.
Whether you’re a student, staff member, or visitor, you can help by making small changes, such as considering your travel options, using reusable bottles, recycling correctly, and switching off lights when you leave a room.
Loughborough College is committed to a brighter, greener future. Join us on the journey.
