Loughborough College has secured a spot in the top 10 of the AoC Sport Planet Earth Games, an achievement that highlights the College's dedication to sustainability and student engagement.
The Planet Earth Games, the UK's largest sustainability competition for the further education sector, has been a platform for young leaders to spearhead their own sustainability initiatives through sport and physical activity.
Since January, colleges across the UK have been participating in the Planet Earth Games, creating and taking part in a variety of sustainability events and activities to earn points for the leader board. This year’s competition saw an amazing 3,212 sustainable actions submitted by students and staff, with events ranging from scavenger hunts and plastic-free canteen campaigns to outdoor yoga sessions and sports kit recycling initiatives.
With an impressive 915 points, Loughborough College achieved an impressive seventh place out of the twenty top-performing institutions.
Sports Coach at Loughborough College, Joseph Jowett, expressed his pride in the college's performance, sharing, “I am incredibly proud of the hard work and creativity shown by our students and staff. Their commitment to sustainability has been truly inspiring. Participating in the Planet Earth Games has not only enhanced our environmental initiatives but also brought our College community closer together in working towards a common goal.”
Chris Broadbent, Founder and CEO of Planet Earth Games, praised the participants for their dedication and ingenuity, “Once again, it has been truly inspiring seeing the commitment, innovation, and passion for sustainability from students taking part in Planet Earth Games.
“Each year, we are humbled by the creativity from young people, and this year was no different. Challenges ranged from scavenger hunts to plastic-free canteen campaigns to outdoor yoga and sports kit recycling."
