Higher Apprenticeship (Level 4) Sports Coach

Role overview
The Level 4 School Sport Coach apprenticeship is designed for individuals passionate about promoting physical activity and sports within schools and the wider community.
This advanced programme equips you with the skills, knowledge, and leadership abilities to deliver high-quality coaching, lead sports initiatives, and support the development of young people’s physical, social, and emotional wellbeing.
Throughout the apprenticeship, you will learn how to plan and deliver effective coaching sessions, engage diverse groups of children and young people, and collaborate with schools, sports clubs, and community organisations. You will also develop skills in leadership, safeguarding, and health promotion, preparing you to take on roles that influence sport and physical activity provision at a strategic level.
This apprenticeship opens pathways to careers in school sport coaching, community sports development, and youth engagement, enabling you to make a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of young people.
Entry requirements
- GCSE grades C/4 or above in English and Maths are exempt from Functional Skills
- Level 3 Sport Qualification and/or Coaching Experience
- If an Apprentice has not already achieved Level 2 (GCSE C/4 or above) English or Maths they must: -Study for and achieve Functional Skills Level 2 English OR Maths (Apprentices must have one or the other to be eligible)
Qualifications obtained
L4 Apprenticeship Standard in Sports Coaching
L2 Functional Skills English and/or Maths (if required)

StreetGames Workshops - Behaviour Management/Multi-Skills/Engaging Women and Girls in Sport
Programme includes
Regular formative assessment, development of a portfolio demonstrating learning and development activities with their application in the workplace and a work-based project. As part of the qualification, Apprentices must complete all units and be competent in real work environment.
- Design and deliver high-quality curriculum sessions
- Increase the school's physical activity levels
- Developing the use of technology in physical education sessions
- Managing equipment and resources
- Facilitating development regarding the coaching team
- Develop the learner's performance at a local and national level
- Target setting for learners through class and individual
- Collaborate with partnership schools to deliver intra and inter-school events
- Deliver extracurricular activities for Morning, Lunchtime or Afterschool
- One-to-one support for SEND and Gifted and Talented pupils
- Measure and evaluate the impact of coaching practice on school standards by comparing children’s results against local and national benchmarks.
- Creating a work based project to develop new/current coaching services
