Dress to Impress

Choose smart, professional attire - trainers and casual wear are not appropriate.

Do Your Homework

Research the company before your interview.

  • What do they do?
  • What are their goals, values, or ethics?
  • How does this fit with your interests?

Speak with Confidence and Respect

  • Use polite and professional language.
  • Avoid swearing or speaking negatively about past employers.
  • When answering questions, be clear and concise.
  • Share examples to back up your points.
  • Provide thoughtful, detailed responses.

Be Mindful of Your Body Language

Try to sit or stand with an open and relaxed posture, avoiding excessive fidgeting. Aim to maintain natural eye contact when speaking or listening - it’s a great way to show interest and attentiveness. If this feels challenging, that’s okay! Instead, focus on staying calm and approachable. A relaxed, open expression can also demonstrate confidence and readiness.

Practice Common Interview Questions

Take time to think about how you’ll respond to typical questions. Here are a few examples to help you prepare:

  • Why are you interested in this role/Apprenticeship?
  • Why do you want to work for our company?
  • What are your future career aspirations?
  • What are your key strengths?

Ensure you have reviewed the job description and Apprenticeship course you have applied for, so you can show an understanding of what the role and programme involves. Remember to focus.

  • Share a brief summary of your background, focusing on skills or experiences linked to the role.

Be Ready with Questions

You will get the opportunity to ask the interviewer questions too. This is a great opportunity to express your interest and continue the conversation. Here are some example questions:

  • What does a typical day in this role look like?
  • Are there opportunities for progression?
  • Is there anything you’d like me to expand on to strengthen my application?

Plan Ahead for the Day

  • Arrive 5–10 minutes early to allow time to gather your thoughts.
  • Review key information about the organisation and refresh any questions or answers you’ve prepared.

Don’t forget if you have any questions or enquiries, we are here for you. Good luck!
