As part of their conference and events unit, Level 3 travel and tourism students recently organised and collaborated with hospitality and media students to run their own events to raise money for charity.

One group ran an Alpine ski lodge themed event, serving pizza and hot chocolate, and raised a brilliant £106 for the Laura Centre. The second group ran a winter fete with a raffle and cake stall and raised a fantasic £115 for Autism East Midlands.

Student Ella Danvers commented “I was one of the event managers for our alpine ski lodge event; I coordinated the groups and ensured everyone knew what they were doing. This helped me to develop leadership skills and confidence which will help me when I get a job.”

Student Oliver Tailby stated “I want to work in events in the future, so being the event manager was a good opportunity to practice the skills I will need to succeed in this industry.”

Travel and tourism lecturer, Rachael Harrison said “All of the students worked hard to put their events together and make their vision come to life. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to develop their skills and work as a team.”

Well done to everyone organising these events and raising money for great causes!
