Harry Winters presents in front of Travel and Aviation students

Students across the Travel and Aviation BTEC programme got inspired for their next steps as they heard from a visiting guest speaker from East Midlands Airport about the new season of their unique and exciting summer Customer Cadet Scheme.

Harry Winter, Customer Services Terminal Operations Manager at East Midlands Airport, visited with students to present more information about the varied and hands-on roles available as part of the scheme, and highlight the success of the current cohort of learners undertaking the scheme. With positions from passenger assistants, baggage handling, ramp operations, and much more, applicants all have the opportunity to try out different roles and discover careers they’d never previously considered.

The Customer Cadet Scheme, which takes off in the summer continues into the new academic year, allowing learners to continue studying with Loughborough College whilst gaining valuable working experience at East Midlands Airport. Students are handpicked from top-tier candidates, and often go on to develop their skills in tourism in careers in the travel industry. College learner Emma, who was in last year’s Cadet Scheme cohort, is now in her second year of studying for her Level 3 qualification in Travel and Tourism, with hopes of a future in cabin crew.

Reflecting on Harry’s recent visit to the College to launch the next Customer Cadet Scheme, Advanced Practitioner Elizabeth Gensler shared: “The Customer Cadet Scheme with East Midlands Airport is the perfect combination of putting theory straight into practice for students.

“This year’s cohort can expect to develop skills and knowledge that transfers perfectly into their course here at Loughborough College. Whether it’s learning more about baggage handling, customer service, or technical operations, they are constantly learning, growing, and being inspired by the numerous roles available as part of the programme.”
