Students highly commended in the British Biology Olympiad

Loughborough College’s A-Level Biology students have put their knowledge to the test in the notoriously challenging British Biology Olympiad.

In the two test papers, students dissected content and examined topics they were not familiar with, testing their problem-solving skills and general understanding of core biological principles.

The British Biology Olympiad seeks the most talented students to represent the United Kingdom in the International Biology Olympiad against more than 60 other counties.

Taking part in the Olympiad has enabled students to demonstrate their interest and enthusiasm in the subject, which may be appealing to prospective universities.

As part of Loughborough College’s enrichment programme, students looked at examination questions and scenarios to help prepare for the tests.

Jess Brooks-Atherton, James Kemp and Theresa Joshy were all awarded with a Highly Commended certificate; Megan Garvey was awarded with a Commended certificate; Riddhi Jainti and Khushpreet Kaur were awarded with Participation certificates.

Seran Bradley, Biology Lecturer at Loughborough College, said: “I am absolutely thrilled for all the students who took part. They threw themselves into the challenge and they all acquitted themselves marvellously.

“We now look forward to the Intermediate Biology Challenge in June which is aimed specifically at our Year 12 students.”
