Loughborough College students had the unique opportunity to experience the adrenaline-fueled world of MotoGP firsthand during an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour at the Monster Energy British Grand Prix 2024 at the iconic Silverstone Racetrack with MotoGP™ management company, Dorna.
Led by the Dorna MotoGP Media Manager, Friné Velilla, Sport and Engineering students were provided with an invaluable glimpse into the careers and operations that power one of the most prestigious motorsport events in the world.
Students explored various components of the Monster Energy British Grand Prix weekend, starting with an in-depth tour of the media and press conference rooms, where they got a fascinating look at the intricate workings of race communications and media management.
One of the highlights of the visit was a rare opportunity to stand on the legendary winners’ podium at Silverstone, before an exclusive look at the race direction operation, giving students insight into how international audiences experience the electrifying world of motorsport. The students also had the chance to converse with stewards, learning more about their critical role.
Reflecting on the experience, Laura Shepherd, Director of Strategic Partnerships and External Relationships shared, “The visit with British MotoGP was a fantastic experience for all our students. It not only provided them with a deeper understanding of the various career paths available in sports and engineering but also inspired them to pursue their passions and find new ones.

Following a day of inspiring experiences, tech company Vislink and safety equipment manufacturer Alpinestars showcased the fascinating and cutting-edge technology highlighting the intersections of technology, sport, and safety. The tour was rounded off with an unforgettable experience of meeting some of the world championship riders in the paddock, providing the students with a personal connection to the sport and as one student shared, “Memories to last a lifetime.”
“For MotoGP, it is crucial to engage with the next generation of future engineers, journalists, and coaches, who will become an integral part of the MotoGP family in the years to come,” said Friné.
“We hope that by showing the students behind the scenes, they could get a glimpse of the work, effort, and passion put into every task in this fast paced racing world while also showcasing them many possible career paths.”
