Stride by Stride: Loughborough College Staff Conquer Chatsworth Estate in Isle of Wight Challenge Training

Posted: 11th March 2023 - 1:00pm

A group of Loughborough College staff recently took on the hilly Chatsworth Estate in Derbyshire as they geared up for the Isle of Wight challenge. The challenge is set to raise funds for PACE Loughborough, Molly's Gift and MacMillan Cancer Research, and the group were keen to ensure they were ready to tackle the 106km trek.

Starting in Baslow, Jesse Jackson, Tim Turner, Emma Griffin, Rachael Owen, and Damien Wright set off on a 26km walk around the estate. The challenging route took in some of the estate's most breathtaking sights, including the Hunting Tower, Aqueduct, Stone Circle and Natural Pool on Haddon Top.

Despite the challenging terrain, the group kept their spirits up, buoyed by the knowledge that their efforts were going towards some fantastic causes. As they approached the halfway point, the group stopped at the Edensor Cafe for a well-earned break and indulged in tea and cake.

Refreshed and refuelled, the team pressed on, taking in the stunning views of Chatsworth House as they made their way back to Baslow. The walk proved to be an excellent opportunity for the group to train and bond as they supported each other through the ups and downs of the challenging route.

Jesse Jackson, one of the group members, said: "It was tough going at times, with the terrain, and we all felt it in our calves. The next training challenge, however, will be the toughest yet as we embark on a 60km circular walk starting in Loughborough and heading up into Derbyshire. It will be challenging, but exactly what is needed to prepare for the total IOW distance."

"It's great to know that our efforts will make a real difference to some deserving charities."

The group is one step closer to the big event with their training underway.
