Salon Superstars! Hair and Barbering Students Showcase their Talents in Competition
Thursday 23rd January 2025

Learners across the College’s Hairdressing and Barbering courses put their best curl forward this week as they took part in the second annual student Hair Competition.
Students spent the afternoon with hairdryers at the ready as they undertook five exciting contests, transforming models under the watchful eye of guest judges Chris and Matt from ASP Expert Haircare, the same hair range used in the Radmoor Salon.
The day started with the Fantasy Hair round, which saw students use their imagination to create extraordinary styles. In the Barbering, Cut, and Finish round, Level 2 and 3 learners wowed the judges with their precise cuts and fades.
In the afternoon rounds, Level 2 students went head-to-head in the Blow Dry, Colour, and Evening rounds, working against the clock to create polished styles on live models and training heads.
After much deliberation, the judging panel announced the highest scoring students of each competition, with first place winners earning an exclusive place in the regional heat for the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) Student Competition.
Judge Chris commended all participants on the high standard of work produced, praising the high level of talent and precision. For the Fantasy Hair round, learners Tye-Jessica Crozier and Maisie Hutchings were awarded, with Tye-Jessica taking the first-place prize.
Bianca Mihalache, Milly Godber, and Olivia Sykes were first prize winners in the Colour, Blow Dry, and Hair-Up competitions respectively. Kirsty Cowan was named runner up for the Colour round, meanwhile Kaysie Bailey took second place in the Blow Dry heat, and Lorella Ridgway claimed second prize in the Hair-Up heat.
In the Barbering competition, Oliver Baker and Corben Shaw were announced as the top-scoring students, and it was Corben who won the highest tally across the entire competition, winning a special sixth prize for his outstanding score.
Speaking at the awards presentation, Curriculum Manager for Hairdressing, Barbering, and Beauty Therapy, Claire Springthorpe shared: “The competition has been a huge success, well done to everyone who took part!
“Our first-place winners will now go on to the regional heats for the AHT Student Competition, aiming for a place in the national final. This is an amazing opportunity to find inspiration, learn new skills, and make connections in the industry.”
