31 students from the College’s Public Services course helped the community ring in the festive season by volunteering at a local Bonfire Night display.
Amongst them were Bradley Darkins, Grace Hart, and Lily Wells, who dedicated their time to assist at the Great Central Railway fireworks display at Quorn station. They turned their hand to various tasks throughout the evening, contributing to an authentic experience for visitors and gaining valuable hands-on training.
After arriving on the iconic steam train from Loughborough, the team got stuck into their duties, which included greeting passengers, assisting people on and off the trains, and ensuring a fun and safe experience.
Reflecting on the experience, Bradley shared: “It really helps us get used to dealing with the public and gives us some real responsibility.”
Lily agreed, adding: “It’s great to work alongside others and experience the event from the inside. We also had a chance to meet staff from uniformed services and ask some questions about what their roles entail.”
By volunteering at the event, Bradley, Grace, and Lily alongside their classmates have contributed to the College’s Good for Me, Good for FE campaign, made a positive impact on the community, and gained valuable skills for their future careers in public service.
