Level 3 Public Services student Jake Blythe proved he’s tough as nails this summer as he took and completed the challenging Outward Bound Pinnacle Expedition across the Lake District.
Setting off on the 19-day summer camp in Ullswater, Jake and his friends camped, climbed, canoed, and travelled their way across the rugged landscape, becoming one of just a handful of young people who finish the challenge each year.
The challenge saw Jake also take part in a solo experience, allowing him time to reflect on his journey, and his future. Course Leader for Protective Services at Loughborough College, Anthony Louch said, “Jake has aspirations of joining the Police Force or the Royal Navy, and his involvement in the Outward Bound Pinnacle shows just how determined he is to reach his goals.
“His commitment and courage, facing rough terrain, unpredictable weather, and unexpected challenges are values we instil in all our learners, and we are proud to see Jake really seize this opportunity.”
Outward Bound is a nationwide charity set up to inspire young people to realise their potential through outdoor learning and adventure. In a news story from The Outward Bound Trust, instructor Jon Tombs shared, “Jake and his group have been extraordinary from the get-go and made me so proud. The friendships he’s made and the grit and determination shown have left the whole of Outward Bound inspired.”
