Private Helen Kavanagh, an alumna of the College’s Public Services programme returned to campus this week to deliver an inspiring presentation to Level 3 Public Services and Public Service Management HND students.

Having earnt her Level 3 Diploma in Public Services in 2019, Helen returned to campus to share her inspiring journey from the classroom to becoming an integral part of the Army Reserves, where she is a driver for the Loughborough Army Reserves 203 Transport Squadron.

During the session, Helen spoke about the skills she has developed and the experiences she has gained through her time at Loughborough College that have transferred to her career.

Following the talk, students were given an exciting hands-on opportunity to explore some of the squadron’s equipment and examine one of their impressive transport vehicles.

Public Services Course Leader, Alison Burnage shared: “The visit provided a unique and valuable glimpse into life in the Army Reserves. It reinforced the practical applications of their courses and showcased the rewarding career paths they might pursue.”

Following Helen’s visit, the Public Services team has announced an upcoming visit to the Loughborough Army Reserve Centre in January. A group of 40 students will take part in a dynamic, competition-style day packed with challenging activities, as well as a session on weapons handling, offering students a chance to experience aspects of military training firsthand.
