Learner Sarah Welch has been recognised for her development and dedication to learning in her workplace by being shortlisted for the prestigious Chartered Management Institute’s (CMI) Outstanding Apprentice of the Year award!
Sarah, who is currently studying for an apprenticeship Level 5 Operations Departmental Manager qualification through Loughborough College works for the Bradgate Education Partnership in Leicestershire. Her standout contribution to her studies was recognised by tutor Jen Walters, and her nomination for both the regional and national awards marks her as the first nomination to the CMI awards that the College has made.
The Outstanding Apprentice of the Year title is awarded for significant progression and consistent commitment to personal and professional development, whilst also acknowledging the outstanding achievements of someone applying their learning to advance themselves and their community.
These qualities have shone through Sarah, who is eighteen months into her apprenticeship and already excelling at work. With a career in education spanning over 18 years, Sarah was keen to learn new skills and tools to further her journey.
“Sarah was nervous coming to do an apprenticeship over the age of 50,” tutor Jen shared, “But her confidence has gone from strength to strength”.
“Sarah stood out as the most outstanding apprentice I’ve worked with in over seven years, and her work was just at another level,”
Sarah finished her CMI course early, and now she’s celebrating her achievements so far by looking ahead to the next step, “Something really has changed within me. I started to feel and think differently, and that change has carried on in my personal life too.
“I was the oldest of my cohort, but it really has made such an impact. I’m considering converting my apprenticeship to a degree next” she continued.
The Chartered Management Institute apprenticeship courses are delivered by Loughborough College, under the Leadership and Management courses offered at the College. Aimed at professionals partway through their careers, these renowned qualifications offer learners benefits including a blend of theoretical and practical study, 20% off-the-job training, the opportunity to learn from established professionals, and supported career development.
The Outstanding Apprentice of the Year award winner will be announced at a ceremony in London later this year. We are all wishing Sarah the best of luck at the awards!
