Motorsport lecturer and accomplished driver, Alex Fletcher brings a new trophy to the College, having won a prestigious BTRDA Rallycross Overall Championship in a car built and maintained entirely by his team of College students.
The exhilarating final race of the BTRDA Rallycross Championship took place at the challenging Knockhill Circuit in Scotland, where Alex’s skill and determination, combined with his students’ hard work secured the victory.
Throughout the season, the College’s student team has been responsible for the entire preparation and maintenance of the Honda Civic Type R, handling everything from construction to performance on race day. By taking part in projects like the Rallycross Championship, Motor Vehicle students earn unique, hands-on learning opportunities, giving them real-world experience in motorsport engineering, technical troubleshooting, and race-day logistics.
Reflecting on the work of his students throughout the championship, Alex said: “This victory is a testament to the talent, dedication, and hard work of our students. They’ve poured their passion into every detail of the car and watching them rise to the challenge and grow as professionals has been a reward in itself.”
The championship win has not only highlighted Alex’s skill as a driver but also reinforced the College’s reputation for preparing learners for future careers in the industry. By participating in high-stakes events like the BTRDA Rallycross Championship, students gain first-hand insight into the demands of professional motorsport.
This triumph marks the third year of consecutive national trophies for the rallycross team and both drivers Alex Fletcher and Gary Cook, who clinched first place in their class in the Championship seasons of 2022 and 2023.
Gary Cook fellow lecturer also retained his class crown for 2024 in the other Loughborough College team car which is also maintained by students.
