International football superstar and Loughborough College alumnus Jude Bellingham has made history yet again in a ground-breaking transfer from German team Borussia Dortmund to Spanish titans, Real Madrid.
Based in the Spanish capital, and one of the biggest teams in the world, Real Madrid have paid £88.5 million for the midfielder, though with various add-ons, the extraordinary deal could reach a potential £115 million. This record-breaking deal would make the 19-year-old the most expensive English footballer ever, taking the title from his fellow national teammates. Joining Real Madrid also makes Jude one of an elite group of just seven British players in history to have signed to the team, following household names including David Beckham, Michael Owen, and Gareth Bale.
Jude graduated from the College in 2021 with a BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Sport and was supported by tutor Jason Ramsay whilst also gaining global recognition for his glittering career in the German Bundesliga league.
Sharing his pride, Jason said, “Jude was an exemplary student while studying a BTEC in Sport at Loughborough College. His ability to manage first team and international duties, while finding time to complete college work was a testament to his maturity and desire to achieve the very best in every aspect of his life.
“Even when moving to Germany, Jude showed complete dedication to complete his BTEC remotely, achieving top grades in the process. All of this, alongside clear world-class talent within his sport means it has been no surprise Jude has earnt himself a move to one of the biggest clubs in world football.”
The teenage superstar’s career has gone from strength to strength, after earning a place in the national England senior squad, Jude has made 24 appearances for the Three Lions. His first senior international goal at the 2022 World Cup made him the second youngest scorer for England at a World Cup, and his over 100 appearances for Borussia Dortmund resulted in even more history making, becoming the club’s youngest captain earlier this year.
Head of Elite Sport at Loughborough College, Matt O’Dowd also praised Jude, adding, “The College is proud to have supported Jude through his studies. His success is a credit to the hard-working staff at the College who ensure our learners have bespoke and flexible programmes that enable them to succeed. We can't wait to see Jude’s career soar in Spain.”
