Students at Loughborough College are being praised for their fantastic successes as they received GCSE exam results above the national average today.

Learners achieved an impressive pass rate of 95%, with 126 students scoring the highest grades of 9-4 in English and nearly 100 in Maths.

Level 2 Vocational and Technical students also received their results today and achieved a 97% pass rate.

, Principal and CEO of Loughborough College, said: “We are incredibly proud of our students who have achieved high grades in both English and Maths and it is fabulous to see that their hard work has paid off.

“As educators, we are all committed to creating opportunities for our learners and we know that GCSEs are the passport to success and employment.”

The results for Loughborough’s learners are being particularly applauded during a challenging time for young people when pass rates have fallen for the second year running.

College student Patryk Rabiczko is one of the many learners being commended for achieving results higher than their predicted grades.

He said: “I got a Grade 5 in my GCSE English which I’m really happy with! Now I’ve received this result I’m planning to stay on at the College to do an Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care.”

Another College learner, Maria Muntean, has received the news she’ll now be going to university thanks to her GCSE English result. Maria first studied with the College learning English as a Second Language (ESOL) and has progressed onto a higher level thanks to her perseverance and the support of her tutors.

She said: “I got a 5 in GCSE English and I'm now going to university to study Microbiology which is really exciting. Looking back from starting Level 1 English as a second language and seeing how far I've come; it’s been an adventure and I’ve had a great time at Loughborough College!”

Learners marked their successes at the Loughborough-based campus, where celebrations with friends, family and teachers were in full swing.
