Students at Sixth Form Culture Day

Last Monday, 20 March, our Sixth Form Student Council held a Culture Day event for our Sixth Form students at Loughborough College to celebrate and raise awareness of our diverse community. Sixth Form Students participated in a Catwalk event showcasing their colourful clothing from different cultures.

The Culture Day team organised the event in the Student Council. It was the first-time students had organised this event, and students were encouraged to dress up in their cultural clothing. There was a catwalk at lunchtime where students, with their respective cultural music, showed off several different outfits.

A good turnout of Sixth Form students came to the lecture theatre to watch the performance by the Sixth Form students, so the event was a huge success and enjoyed by our learners. The event highlights the college's commitment to embracing its FREDIE values which stand for Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement, and its focus on promoting and celebrating equality, diversity, and inclusion.

One student commented, "It's great that we're doing this; this is a side of me that friends at college don't know about."

Alix Lowe, Academic Coach, LC Sixth Form, remarked, "Our first student-led Culture Day was a big success! Students came in beautiful clothing representing their heritage and shared some wonderful dance and musical talents. The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and we look forward to it growing even more in the coming years."
