Following a dazzling performance, hospitality and catering students Jess, Libby, and Eddie clinched two awards at the UK Young Restaurant Team of the Year competition this year.
Wowing the judges in the final stage of the competition, the Loughborough College team took home the Sustainability Award, and a Highly Commended Award for Best Service. Facing competition from colleges across the country, teams had to prepare and serve dishes in a live restaurant situation at the annual Skills for Chefs conference in Sheffield.
Using fresh and quality produce provided by sponsors including Wellocks Food and MSK Ingredients, Jess, Libby, and Eddie – who are part of the Radmoor Restaurant team – created a delicious feast of salmon, sirloin beef, and Parisian pastries.
Celebrating the team’s success, Chef Lecturer at Loughborough College, and team mentor Darren Creed shared, “The team were passionate, driven, and motivated throughout the competition.
“From the semi-finals in March, where they presented fantastic French cuisine, to the Grand Final and their outstanding menu and service, we couldn’t be prouder. It was an honour to have mentored them and to have seen them reach this achievement.”
Having reached the final, the team will now each receive a 12-month subscription to ckbk, an exclusive digital collection of acclaimed cookbooks, including titles from Yotam Ottolenghi, Anthony Bourdain, and Nigella Lawson.
