Hairdressing, Barbering and Beauty students have recently been making waves with a series of creative and educational activities that have further honed their skills and passion for the industry.
From innovative hairdressing sessions to inspiring and informative visits, the students have had a busy and exciting start to the new academic year.
Barbering Alumni George Shares Inspiration
Level 2 and 3 Barbering students welcomed back alumni George Hardwick for a motivational session on his journey to owning his own barbershop, GH Cuts, and an inspiring talk on their future careers. Students came away from the lesson feeling determined and excited, with a new and positive attitude for the year ahead.
Hairdressing Students Get a Paper Cut!
Level 3 Hairdressing students showed their creative skills in an in-class paper hair styling session where they were challenged to use paper to craft intricate hairstyles, allowing them to push their creativity and technical abilities to the limit. With an array of imaginative and avant-garde designs, the students demonstrated not only their styling skills but also their flair for artistic expression. The competition was a resounding success, encouraging a sustainable twist on hairstyling.
Lecturer for Hairdressing and Barbering, Kerie Mooney said: “We take part in the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) competition every year, and have won gold, silver, and bronze places over the years. These creative sessions give students the opportunity to gain new skills and to see hairstyling from a new and unique perspective ahead of next year’s national competition.”
Beauty Therapy Workshops are Hands-On
Meanwhile, Level 3 Beauty Therapy students have also enjoyed a number of special visits. Business Support Manager from prestigious skincare brand Dermalogica, Alice Houghton visited the college to speak to learners about the global success of Dermalogica, and the employment opportunities the company offers. Alice also spent time discussing the brand’s Aspire programme, which offers a vast range of training courses to further education institutions to allow students develop their skills within the industry.
Part-time Beauty Therapy learners welcomed back Faiza Rajput from the renowned Ragdale Hall Spa for a hands-on skills development workshop in industry skills and facial techniques. Faiza recently visited the College to present the team with a Platinum College of Excellence certification, formally recognising the College as outstanding partners with consistently high standards of training.
Inspiring Alumna Laura Returns to Campus
Adding to the excitement, the students were treated to a visit from Laura Bilson, a successful Level 3 Beauty Therapy alumna who now owns thriving local salon, The Beauty Boot. Laura shared her journey from student to entrepreneur, offering insights into setting up and managing a salon, as well as tips for building a loyal client base. Her visit inspired the students, showing them what they could achieve with dedication and skill.
Curriculum Manager for Hair, Barbering and Beauty Therapy, Claire Springthorpe reflected: “These activities have given our students the opportunity to enhance their professional skills, while also sparking their creativity and boosting their confidence for the future.”
