Going for Gold! College Student and Alumni Head to Paris for Olympic Games

Posted: 29th July 2024 - 1:52pm

As part of the wider #Lboro2Paris campaign in partnership with Loughborough Sport and Loughborough University, we’re shining a light on the remarkable athletes associated with Loughborough College as they took to boats along the Seine to celebrate the opening of the Paris Olympics.

With alumni including gold medallist Keely Hodgkinson, and eight talented swimming students and alumni, the 31 sporting superstars warming up across nine different disciplines all have solid connections to the College, and Loughborough’s sporting legacy.

Reflecting on his journey to Paris, freestyle swimmer and degree student Alex Cohoon shared, “Loughborough speaks for itself…I knew I wanted to be a part of it.”

The College’s long-time commitment to nurturing athletic talent is proven through continued developments and enhancements, including a new state-of-the-art sports facility, the result of a £9.9million investment from the Department for Education.

Principal and CEO of Loughborough College, Corrie Harris said, “We are all immensely proud of our alumni and students who will be representing Loughborough College as they compete in the Olympic Games.

“Their dedication, perseverance, and outstanding achievements embody the attitudes we strive to inspire in our students. We wish them all the very best of luck as they showcase their talents on the biggest sporting stage in the world.”

Supporting athletes on site, through partnerships with the University, sporting governing bodies, and through distance learning in both further and higher education, the College’s support system ensures that athletes receive the best possible preparation for international competition.

The entire College community is incredibly proud of these athletes and wishes them the best as they compete for Olympic glory in Paris. Stay tuned for updates and results from our talented representatives as they make their mark on the world stage!

You will also be able to see more Loughborough College superstars take to the Stade de France as part of the Paralympics, launching on Wednesday 28 August.
