Last week, Loughborough College welcomed back former Barbering student Sam Buckby, providing an exciting opportunity for current learners to gain valuable insights into industry trends and techniques.
During his visit to the Radmoor Salon, Sam, who studied Level 2 Barbering at the College in 2020 volunteered to be a client for a demonstration on perming – a popular and growing trend in men’s hairstyling. The process was led by a member of our teaching team, giving the current Level 2 Barbering students an up-close look at the techniques and considerations involved in this in-demand service.
In addition to the perm demonstration, Sam took the opportunity to reconnect with current students, including learner James Stacey. Reflecting on Sam’s visit, James said: “It was great to see Sam, and we were lucky that he agreed to share his expertise. He’s definitely an inspiration for the next generation of barbers here at the College.”
Sam’s career has gone from strength to strength since completing his studies. He is now part of the team at Menspire in Nottingham, a highly prestigious barbershop renowned for its innovative approach to men’s grooming.
Lecturer in Hairdressing and Barbering, Kerie Mooney shared her pride for Sam’s success, adding: “Securing a chair at such a respected establishment is a testament to Sam’s talent and dedication to his craft. It was amazing to see how he has progressed. I am so proud of him!
“Sam’s visit was a fantastic reminder of the exciting opportunities available to those who dedicate themselves to their craft.”
Beyond his barbering achievements, Sam has also pursued further education, studying business at the University of Nottingham. With his passion for the industry, he aspires to open his own barbershop in the future.
