Innovative students at Loughborough College will gain invaluable insight from an industry insider as part of their music degree course.
Guest lecturer Joel Harris, who releases music under the stage name Books, will share advice and tips on experimental music techniques with Third Year degree students on our BA (Hons) Applied Studies Music top-up degree programme on Tuesday, 9th March 2021.
It is part of the module ‘Innovation Music’ in which students are encouraged to experiment with the notions of western music theory and study innovative music practices of the post-war period
Matt Toole, a creative arts and music lecturer at Loughborough College, said: “We’re delighted that Joel can spend some time with students to share his approach to creating music. The students will gain a real insight into how experimental production and performance techniques can be integrated within their own artistic practices.
“This is the latest in a series of guest lectures which connect our students with industry professionals. It is truly enriching for our students who are gaining so much from our guests’ insight.”
Joel is a composer and producer, mixer, engineer, collaborator, and live performer and has been releasing music since 2015 on various labels. His debut album ‘Station’ was released in 2018 on Detuned Transmissions and was well received by the UK music press.
He also has a residency at London’s genre-defining One.Seventy club night, and has been performing live with an experimental set-up centred around the use of cassette tape loops, tape players and dictaphones.
