Team GB's Mixed Relay Team

Current Loughborough College student Emily Newnham, and alumni Josh Faulds have added more remarkable achievements to their growing athletic careers, clinching bronze medals as part of Great Britain’s 4x400m mixed relay team at the European Indoor Athletics Championships.

The talented duo represented Team GB in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, where they helped secure a podium finish against some of the continent’s top athletes.

Both Emily and Josh have been making waves in the world of athletics, particularly in the 400m hurdles, their specialist event.

Josh, who studied for his BSc (Hons) in Applied Sports Science at Loughborough College, graduating in 2022, and current BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching student Emily have further connections with the College, being coached for their podium finish by former Olympian and current Elite Sports Coordinator, Martyn Rooney.

Emily, also a specialist in the 400m hurdles and a talented long jumper, enjoyed further success in Apeldoorn, earning a silver medal alongside her bronze with the women’s 4x400m relay.

The mixed 4x400m relay is a relatively new event, first introduced at the 2017 IAAF World Relays in the Bahamas. At the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Team GB were well represented throughout athletics, with former students Lewis Davey, Matthew Hudson-Smith, and Daryll Neita winning two bronze and a silver medal in the 4x400m men’s relay and the women’s 4x100m relay respectively.
