Students and staff across the College paid tribute to fallen service men and women across the world in a touching Remembrance Day ceremony organised by the Public Services department.

The service began with an introduction and recital of What is Remembrance by Deputy Principal, Heather Clarke, before His Majesty’s Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Baroness Hazel Byford DBE read Graham Cook’s poignant poem, Remember.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Principal Heather Clarke said: “Remembrance honours those who serve to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life. We unite across faiths, cultures, and backgrounds to remember the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community from Britain and the Commonwealth.”

Public Services students Amelia Hardy, Izzy Woodward, and Robin Collie then took to the stage for moving readings of A Soldiers PoemIn Flanders’ Field, and Ode to Remembrance respectively. Signalling the start and finish two-minute silence at 11am, Public Services Management graduate Georgie Dove played The Last Post on the bugle.

Representatives from the Armed Forces, emergency services, the College, Governors, and local MPs office then laid wreaths with written messages of remembrance. Amongst the messages read tributes including, “On behalf of the people of Loughborough, we will remember them.”
