Loughborough College is proud to officially unveil its brand-new academy training kitchens in the Radmoor Centre, designed to elevate the learning experience for our Hospitality and Catering students.
This new state-of-the-art kitchen aims to set a new standard in culinary education and is fully equipped with the latest in technology and interactive learning tools.
This innovative teaching space has already been praised as a "fully immersive" environment where students can develop practical skills on industry-standard equipment.
Each work area is designed to maximise hands-on learning while supporting both individual and group practice. Every station is outfitted with its own screen, controlled directly from a central demonstration area where lecturers can guide students step-by-step through techniques, recipes, and presentations. This allows for an interactive learning experience, meaning that every learner can observe, practice, and perfect their skills under expert supervision.
As part of the exciting, hands-on curriculum, students work at the award-winning Radmoor Restaurant, found on Loughborough College’s campus. Chefs use delicious, fresh produce from quality local suppliers to ensure meals are of the highest standard.
Earlier this year, students were recognised at the UK Young Restaurant Team of the Year awards, scooping two titles in sustainability and service. More recently, Radmoor Restaurant was named as a Food Hero in the highly respected Good Food Club Awards.
Speaking about the newly installed improvements, Curriculum Manager and Chef Lecturer for Hospitality and Catering, Darren Creed shared: “The new kitchens have been a game-changer and they are key to the development and growth of our students at the Radmoor Restaurant. The updated technology offers students a valuable chance to master the tools they will encounter in the industry, and in turn offer a first-class experience to our diners. Having top-quality tools to work with reflects the real-world skill development we aim for.”
In addition to the high-tech design, the new kitchens are now fully induction-based, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and safety while mirroring the equipment used in many modern professional kitchens.
The upgrade even extends to cookware, with new stainless steel pans and Kitchen Aid mixers adding an extra touch of professionalism and motivation for the students.
“These training kitchens reinforce our dedication to providing students with the best possible resources, skills and knowledge that align with industry standards,” continued Darren. “The new facilities will be key in developing the next generation of chefs, and we are proud to be on the cutting-edge of industry technology, enabling students to be ready to thrive in any kitchen environment.”
