Celebrating World Charity Day

Posted: 5th September 2023 - 1:28pm

As we celebrate World Charity Day on 5 September, we look at the work Good for Me, Good for FE has achieved so far, and how learners and staff at Loughborough College can continue to get involved.

The national Good for Me, Good for FE campaign works to encourage a sustainable programme of community action in colleges across the UK. Co-founded by Loughborough College, London South East Colleges, and East Coast College in 2021, the initiative has made an unprecedented impact on the charitable efforts of staff and students in colleges across the country.

We take immense pride in encouraging our staff and student body to support local, national, and international charity campaigns. From a 24 Hour Sportathon for locally founded fund Samuel’s Promise, to a gruelling 106km walk around the Isle of Wight for multiple regional and national charities, our College community has contributed towards a staggering national £2.2m for the Good for Me, Good for FE Campaign over the last academic year.

Previously, learners and staff have donated hundreds of food and toiletries to a local festive food bank campaign, and our Kit Aid and Boots for Africa giving points remain in the Hub allowing donations of equipment to benefit sport in developing countries.

Now working with over 130 colleges nationwide, and counting the FA, NCFE, and Scouts among its charity and corporate partners, Good for Me, Good for FE has reached thousands of lives across the UK, and received a High Commendation for the Social Innovation Partnership title at the Social Value Awards in June.

As we now enter a new academic year, and the Good for Me, Good for FE campaign ramps up for a year of giving, we want to continue to encourage our community to take part in this important and timely initiative.

All forms of charitable giving are eligible to add to the Good for Me, Good for FE campaign at the College. Making donations to charity shops, volunteering your spare time to non-profit organisations, or taking part in College-based awareness days, all efforts can contribute towards the Good for Me, Good for FE initiative can make a difference to countless lives in need across the UK.

To register your contributions to the Good for Me, Good for FE campaign at Loughborough College, staff and students can submit details on our online form here.
