Alumna Ashleigh Griffiths, who has forged an extraordinary career in the Royal Navy as a female submariner is marking another milestone in her impressive journey, currently undertaking her promotion course.

In the Royal Navy, promotion courses are structured training programmes designed to prepare personnel for advancement to the next rank. For submariners like Ashleigh, a promotion course may include Command and Leadership Training, Operational Readiness, and Physical and Mental Resilience Training to prepare her for greater challenges and responsibilities undersea.

Ashleigh, who completed her Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services in 2020, is part of a pioneering group of women breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field. With women only being allowed to serve on submarines with the Royal Navy since 2014, Ashleigh’s success is a testament to her determination.

Curriculum Manager for Public Services at Loughborough College, Tim Turner reflected on how the course has provided Ashleigh with the foundation needed to thrive in a high-pressure career. He shared: “Public Services courses at Loughborough College give our students great insight into the abilities required for a career in the Armed Forces and develops key skills that our alumni now use every day.

“Ashleigh’s journey serves as an inspiration to current and future students at Loughborough College, demonstrating that with passion and perseverance, ambitious goals can be achieved.”
