A troop of talented students will don virtual glass slippers and hop into a digital pumpkin carriage in their annual pantomime – delivered online for the first time ever.
Loughborough College’s Year 1 Performing Arts students have been working hard on a new type of virtual stagecraft to perform Cinderella on Thursday, 18th March 2021 from 6pm.
With Microsoft Teams as their stage, students are all set to deliver a one-hour show packed full of the usual gags, silliness, fun and even a cute panto animal – what’s not to love.
In the online version, Cinderella must meet her man over the internet whilst battling her ugly sisters and getting offline by midnight.
Kathyrn Hayward-Brown, who stars as Cinderella, said: “The challenges we face of performing online pushed us to use our imagination to find alternative ways to give ourselves that boost and to always keep us on our toes.
“With the performance itself, it is coming together well and we are all finding our feet with the new circumstances which is going to make this something brand new for the audience. When joining at the start of the year to now, the staff are extremely welcoming and very supportive. It's a great environment but still has the professional atmosphere which prepares you for moving forward to the next steps into the industry.”
Charlie Cound is a Level 3 Performing Arts student who stars as one of the Ugly Stepsisters in the show. He said: “Preparing for Cinderella online is a very different experience to how I imagined it when I started year 1 last September. However, it has been just as fun and the whole cast has made the best of it! I know everyone who watches this will be impressed by the standard. Performing arts at Loughborough College is welcoming, fun and it builds confidence whilst keeping a professional environment.”
Emma Ledsam, Performing Arts Lecturer at the College, said: “Our panto is one of the most eagerly anticipated shows for our first year students and, although we can’t do it the theatre, we’ve still had loads of fun preparing for the online version.
“The students have worked so hard and adapted so well to online performing and I can’t wait to share with everyone their performance. It’s going to be fantastic fun.”
