“Each day is better than the last” – How Apprentice Humayrah Developed Her Confidence
Wednesday 12th February 2025

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, we spoke to learner Humayrah Makda, who has been undertaking her Apprenticeship in a local primary school for nearly ten months, after finding the opportunity to study and work with Loughborough College.
“The best thing about being an apprentice is that I get the chance to have work experience in a field that’s also helping me earn a qualification at the same time,” says Humayrah. “It’s a good balance and helps me put what I’ve learnt into perspective in real-time.”
Apprenticeships are a unique opportunity to learn and earn. Loughborough College offer Apprenticeship programmes at a variety of levels from intermediate to higher, meaning no matter which stage of your career you’re at, there are opportunities to upskill and progress.
For Humayrah, it made choosing an apprenticeship with Loughborough College the perfect decision. “Apprenticeships get you into the world of work from day one. The hands-on learning has really helped me develop and see where I want my future to be.”
Reflecting on her Apprenticeship so far, Humayrah is proud of her journey and continued growth both in her studies and in the classroom and says the support of her team has been vital to her development. She said: “One highlight for me was receiving praise from a co-worker who did amazing work. I enjoy the process of learning on the job and picking up feedback and advice from staff who have worked in this industry for decades. Getting that mentoring has taught me a lot.”
Humayrah is now nearly a year into her placement and is looking ahead to her next steps. With career aspirations as a Teaching Assistant, she recommends applying for an apprenticeship through Loughborough College. She shared: “I’d absolutely recommend it. You can gain both qualifications plus experience for your CV, and you have excellent support systems in both your workplace and with the College.
“If I had any advice, it’d be to take your time and work hard. Each day is better than the last.”
Apprentices with Loughborough College are open to everyone 16+ and offer contacts and networking to anyone at all stages of their career.
