Student Charlie Levels Up His Skillset with T Level Qualification
Tuesday 3rd December 2024

“I’ve been interested in computers for my entire life,” says T Level Digital Production, Design, and Development student, Charlie. After completing qualifications in Computer Science at school, it was the unique work placement aspect of studying a T Level with Loughborough College that appealed to Charlie.
Completed over two years, a T Level is the equivalent to studying three A Levels and provides a high-quality technical alternative to academic exams. By combining classroom learning with work placed experience, the courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses to give students the most practical and relevant skills possible.
For Charlie, getting a head start in the world of work was an invaluable opportunity that has afforded him the chance to expand his skillset and gain confidence in his future. By entering a work placement with Loughborough-based digital agency, Institute, Charlie has been able to unlock new skills and grow his independence.
Reflecting on the encouragement he has received at Institute, Charlie said: “I’d never had a job before, but the team walked me through what they do on a day-to-day basis, what they want to achieve, and allowed me to share my ideas and goals. I had a project I wanted to complete, and I was given the support I need.”
Industry placements take place across the course of the qualification for at least 45 days with an external employer. When not on placement, students develop technical skills, delivered in specially designed classrooms that mirror a working environment.
After spending time with Institute, developing his skills and learning his strengths, Charlie found more opportunities opening up to him. He shared: “I was working on my project, and the team were impressed with what I was doing. We got talking about a job opportunity I was interested in, and I’ve been enjoying every minute of it!”
