Loughborough College plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of skilled professionals by offering comprehensive support and practical experiences to students pursuing T Level qualifications. These qualifications combine classroom learning with work placements to allow students to develop both academic knowledge and practical skills tailored to their chosen sectors.
One of these impactful partnerships is with Watermead Day Nursery, which has been hosting T Level students from Loughborough College for placements in its nursery and forest school provisions. This experience gives students the chance to immerse themselves in real-world environments, preparing them for the childcare and education sector.
“Our T Level placements have proven themselves to be invaluable in enabling our core staff, and the way they work alongside our team shows us their specific talents and how they will enhance the experiences of our children.” Says Nursery Consultant, Gill Hayhoe.
The support structure provided by Loughborough College ensures that T Level students are well-prepared before stepping into their placements and can integrate seamlessly into workplace teams. Watermead Day Nursery staff further nurture this transition by acting as role models and offering guidance, fostering a supportive environment for students.
Gill continued: “Our staff act as role models, and are open to sharing practice and advice. They allow students to take the lead and provide opportunities to discuss, reflect, and review their experiences.”
Over the course of their placement, students are involved with all aspects of nursery life, both on and off site. They are included in staff training events, and support the team in planning experiences to support the development of the children.
Having gone on to offer employment to students after their placement, Watermead Nursery pride themselves on “investing in the future of the sector.” Looking ahead, Gill is excited to see more talented T Level learners gain invaluable experience at the nursery and enthuses about the benefits of hosting students for a placement, sharing: “I definitely recommend supporting T Level students. You can expect them to have a sound academic background and a genuine commitment to working and learning.”
