Make a Career Splash with our Swimming Teacher and Lifeguard Skills Bootcamp!
Wednesday 19th February 2025

Following the launch of our first Skills Bootcamp programmes earlier this year, we are proud to announce three new Sports-based courses – including a Swimming Teacher and Lifeguard Skills programme – that are designed to support participants as they dive into a rewarding career in the aquatic and leisure industry.
The eight-week intensive course will support learners to achieve industry-recognised qualifications from the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) and Safety Training Awards (STA). Participants will develop essential skills in water safety, confidence, and swimming techniques, equipping them with the certifications needed for roles in the industry.
Dave Candler, CEO for the STA, a National Governing Body for swimming said: “STA is proud to support this fantastic Skills Bootcamp initiative. This education delivery partnership comes at an important time; it creates an opportunity to bridge the skills gap. This programme allows more people to learn how to swim, while offering individuals in the East Midlands the chance to train, become professionally qualified, and take the first step towards a rewarding career that can change and save lives."
Taught on site at Lonsdale and Gayton Pools in Derby by Training Aquatic Courses Ltd, and shaped in collaboration with Loughborough College and Core Aquatics Ltd the programme provides learners with lifeguarding expertise. These key skills will allow them to go on to begin or advance careers teaching swimming lessons of all ages and abilities and working as a lifeguard.
Skills Bootcamps are accessible training programmes designed to help individuals and businesses develop high-demand skills. They offer flexible, industry-driven skills that offer participants a chance to upskill and offer a direct pathway to employment upon completion.
Jo Talbot, Commercial Director of RLSS UK said: “We're thrilled to be involved with the Swimming Teacher and Lifeguard Skills Bootcamps delivered by Training Aquatic Courses Ltd and shaped in collaboration with Loughborough College and Core Aquatics Ltd. Being a lifeguard brings phenomenal benefits to individuals. This programme will allow individuals who want to work within our incredible sector to receive fantastic training, opening the door to new opportunities.
“The Skills Bootcamps come at a great time, with participants developing the essential skills, knowledge, and qualifications needed to begin or advance a rewarding career in the aquatic and leisure industry.”
The Swimming Teacher and Lifeguard Skills Bootcamp is open to anyone aged 19 or over who can meet some basic aquatic skills. The programme is fully funded to eligible learners, and further information can be found on our website.
