The Hairdressing, Barbering, and Beauty Therapy classrooms have been bustling with activity, showcasing an impressive line-up of training sessions, industry talks, and learning experiences over the last few months.
Hairdressing and Barbering Students Get Inspired
Level 2 Barbers and Hairdressing learners participated in hands-on training with Affinage Salon Professional (ASP) Expert Haircare educator Matt Brookes, where they gained insights into the brand, techniques for using new colours, and application with real clients.
Inspired by the success of the Level 2 students’ training, more learners across Hairdressing and Barbering will have the opportunity to learn directly from Matt when he returns to the Radmoor Salon in January. Hair and Barbering lecturer Kerie Mooney shared: “We are excited to have Matt return to continue to share his expertise with our students. He will also be judging the our annual Hair Competition, where our winners earn an exclusive place in the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) national student competition. It’s a really exciting event!”

Additionally, trade tests were conducted for three learners, paving the way for placements at the prestigious spa. On a second visit, students participated in an advanced session on hands-free massage techniques, broadening their expertise in therapeutic methods and enhancing their practical skills.
Immersive Learning with Technology
Students embraced the technical world of Virtual Reality, using VR headsets to explore the skeletal system. This innovative approach allowed them to complete workbooks and prepare for upcoming exams in an engaging, interactive environment.
