An intensive 8-week programme designed to provide participants with the essential skills, knowledge, and qualifications needed to begin or advance a rewarding career in the aquatic and leisure industry.

The course will support learners to achieve industry-recognised qualifications from the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) and Safety Training Awards (STA), equipping them with essential certifications for roles in the aquatic and leisure industry.

These certifications, taught on-site at Lonsdale/Gayton Pools in Derby, allow participants to teach swimming lessons for all ages and abilities and work independently as a lifeguard. Delivered by Training Aquatic Courses Ltd and shaped in collaboration with Core Aquatics Ltd, this programme ensures they receive expert training aligned with industry needs.

These short courses provide the knowledge and expertise needed to pursue new opportunities or enhance existing capabilities as swimming teachers or lifeguards.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Plan and deliver fun, effective swimming lessons.
  • Teach essential skills like water safety, confidence, and swimming techniques.
  • Gain lifeguarding expertise, including CPR, first aid, and aquatic rescue.

Entry requirements

  • Our Skills Bootcamps are open to anyone aged 19 or older, living in England, and eligible to work in the UK.
  • 19 years of age or older
  • Resident in the UK for the past three years
  • Live in England
  • Have the right to study and work in the UK
  • Hold no similar qualifications
  • Jump/dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 meters in no more than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 meters continuously on front
  • Swim 100 meters continuously on back
  • In deep water, tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool designs permits

Qualifications obtained

You’ll gain industry-recognised qualifications, including:

  • Level 2 Award & Certificate in Teaching Swimming (STA)
  • Level 3 National Pool Lifeguarding Qualification (NPLQ) by RLSS.
