The Hackney Wick FC Academy brings together Hackney Wick FC, Loughborough College and Loughborough University to form a new partnership. This unique collaboration is designed to offer the very highest quality education and guidance, access to a global network of leading sporting organisations and opportunities alongside allowing players to follow their football ambitions.
The course is delivered from Loughborough University London, on the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The park is the base for many high-profile sport employers and facilities, providing a unique opportunity for everyone on the course.

Hackney Wick Football Club is one of the most recognised community clubs in the world. They are unique in putting sport on par with community and pride themselves in supporting others, especially those from more marginalised communities.
Formed over 7 years ago, they are currently a step 6 club playing in the tenth tier of British football. They participate in the FA Cup and FA Vase at both senior and youth levels and have over 15 teams.
Hackney Wick Football Club are connected with many coaches from professional clubs who liaise with them on emerging talent. They work with over 150 players on a weekly basis with qualified coaches providing enhanced sessions to better the chances of players
Loughborough College provide high quality sports education and academy programmes. The College has more than 3,000 sport learners located across the country, working with more than 15 Sports Governing Bodies.
The College have developed a number of bespoke programmes, across all levels of sport, and have worked with more than 100 employers to identify the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for employment, as well as supporting progression to higher education.

Loughborough University London is an inspiring campus located on the iconic Queen Elizabeth Park. The course is delivered on our London campus, bringing learners into a unique environment surrounded by world-leading sports organisations and facilities.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development.
The course is delivered in a vocational manner, with assessments ranging from written reports, portfolios, and posters to verbal assessments, presentations, and practical observations.

The course consists of a number of mandatory and optional units delivered over the two-year duration exploring a variety of different areas. The typical unit structure is below;

Our entry requirements to enrol on to the course are:
Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language and Maths.
Learners who have not achieved above a grade C/4 in English and/or Maths, will be required to re-sit their GCSE subject. This helps learners develop their English or maths skills, to aid with progression to higher education or employment. We support this with timetabled lessons and an opportunity to re-sit your exam the following academic year.

The Hackney Wick football academy programme will provide pathways to the Hackney Wick FC first team, who play step 6 football in the football pyramid. The best players will also be able to play for the Hackney Wick FC under 18s who play in the FA Cup.
The Hackney Wick FC academy programme will provide a unique learning and development programme, that include:
- Hackney Wick Marshes Sports Centre facility for technical and tactical training
- Strength & Conditioning training
- Hackney Wick FC Academy kit
- AOC (Association of Colleges) league competition programme
- Additional friendly fixtures and cup competitions
- Transport to all academy fixtures

As part of the academy programme and BTEC qualification, you will develop and enhance knowledge, skills and behaviours. Loughborough College have developed On-Trend skills, that are the key skills and behaviours identified by employers as being in demand, and learners will have the opportunities to develop these skills and behaviours, and be able to promote these to employers.

EMPLOYABILITY & WORK PLACEMENTS
These skills and behaviours will be developed during the duration of the programme and learners will be assessed for how well they perform throughout their programme.
In addition, other activity will develop employment readiness, these include:
- Community/Social Action Projects
- Employability tutorial programme – to help develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for employment
- Opportunity to learn more about local job roles and needs
- Meet and hear from employers, including a range of sport employers based in the vicinity of the delivery venue at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
- Additional workshops, such as social media
- Development of leadership skills
- Visits, trips and open days
Employer feedback is that young people lack work experience for the work place. As part of the programme, learners will complete work placements that will enable greater understanding of the needs of employers and to improve the potential for gaining employment on completion of the programme.
As part of the programme learners will reflect on their performance in work placements, with the aim of improving performance, increasing their chance of gaining employment.
Upon successful completion of the Level 3 Sport qualification and academy programme, you will have the equivalent of three A Levels. The following exit and progression routes will be available:
- Higher Education/University in the UK
- US university
- Apprenticeships
- Job opportunities within the sport and leisure sector
- Other employment, as many skills and behaviours developed through sport are sought after by employers outside of the sport sector
As part of the tutorial programme, learners will identify their preferred progression routes and develop action plans to help them reach their preferred pathway(s) on completion of the programme.
