People’s experiences at College, whether they are current or past, can have a big impact on their confidence and ability to perform and be themselves.

As a college renowned for sport, our pledge is to encourage all of our students and staff to challenge homophobic, biphobic and transphobic language and behaviours, allowing us to build an inclusive environment that allows young people to achieve their aspirations and meet their goals.

Loughborough College fully supports people who identify as LGBTQ+. We are committed to sport without prejudice: sport that is available and accessible to all.

According to research from the ICM, homophobia, biphobia and transphobia are still too common in sport.

  • 72% of football fans have heard homophobic abuse on the stands at a match
  • 20% of 18 to 24-year-olds say that they would be embarrassed if their favourite player came out
  • Young people are twice as likely to say that anti-LGBTQ+ language is harmless if it is just meant as 'banter'

“We welcome and accept LGBTQ+ young people in every aspect of life, including sport. We want to make sport everyone’s game.”
Positive Actions:

We will be holding workshops to highlight issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community and how we can create inclusive teams.

PLAYERS WILL BE WEARING RAINBOW LACES DURING A SELECTED FIXTURE THIS SEASON TO SUPPORT LGBTQ+ ISSUES AND ERADICATING HOMOPHOBIA IN SPORT.
