College Student Transforms Work Experience into Career Development

With aspirations of developing her career in the early years childcare and education sector, student Kirsten has kickstarted her future by transforming a work experience placement into a full-time employment opportunity.

Learner Kirsten Calderhead is currently working towards a Level 2 Certificate in Introducing Caring for Children and Young People at Loughborough College. Having embarked on a work experience placement at the esteemed Loughborough Nursery as part of her academic curriculum, Kirsten was celebrated for her enthusiasm and ambition, which has led her to a new and exciting journey.

It was during her placement that Kirsten’s hard work, dedication, and professionalism were recognised by nursery staff, who invited her to interview for an exclusive apprenticeship opportunity. Having received an offer for the role, Kirsten was thrilled to accept, and is now looking forward to a hands-on career experience after finishing her studies.

Caring and Public Services Lecturer, and Kirsten’s tutor, Liza Foster shared, “Kirsten’s dedication and passion for caring for children and young people has been inspiring. Her journey from student to soon-to-be apprentice is a testament to her commitment.

“Since she has been at College, she has gained invaluable key skills and knowledge which will equip her for this new role. The College has been a real launch pad for her and her success. We are all excited to see where this opportunity takes her.”
