T-Level electrical engineering students were given a masterclass in sustainability during a trip to a state-of-the-art recycling plant.
The Loughborough College class visited Waste Experts in Huddersfield where they learned insights into how to be sustainable and how to create a sustainable environment, which involved recycling as much as possible.
After a presentation, students suited up in full PPE before touring the site, seeing first-hand the process involved in recycling materials.
Learners took away the message of the Circular Economy and Sustainable Development as society enters the third industrial revolution and focuses on migrating towards a carbon free world.
James Smith, another Loughborough College student, agreed: “The visit made us realise how important it is for our future, that we reduce the environmental impacts of our consumption and production.”
Students also learned the importance of data security and health and safety.
Liam Allmand, Head of Operations at Waste Experts, said: “With less tolerance in the industry for breaches of health and safety, it is vital that people understand from the beginning of their working life, the consequences of not complying.”
Loughborough College prides itself in real-life experience for students and helping them to build a technical and employable skillset.
Jack Vaux, T-Level Electrical student at Loughborough College, said: “I learnt a lot about how data can be stored on any device with a permanent memory and therefore the critical importance of data destruction and secure data wiping.”
This trip was a part of a series of on-going industrial learning activities in partnership with City Electrical Factors whose area group manager, Lee Southall, also took part in the presentation and nurturing Loughborough College students’ success.
