Two groups of T Level Construction students recently had the unique opportunity to visit the site of the major new sports facility currently under construction at Loughborough College.
The facility, being built by Stepnell Construction, is one of the several key facilities being developed at the College campus, and the much-anticipated sports building is set to become a key part of the local sports infrastructure.
The tours, which took place last week, provided students with real-world insights into the construction industry, and allowed them to see firsthand the various stages of construction, from foundational work to advanced building techniques.
Account Manager for Apprenticeships at Loughborough College, Ellie Clarke reflected on the importance of such experiences in bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical industry knowledge: “These visits have been so exciting and insightful for both myself and the T Level Construction team. We had the fantastic opportunity, thanks to Stepnell, to participate in a careers section and tour the site of our new sports building.
“This experience has not only provided our learners with valuable industry insights, but also allowed them to see the range of opportunities available in construction. We look forward to seeing the process on the new facility in the coming months.”
The new sports facility is designed to support modern training spaces, contemporary classrooms, and new staff areas. It is the result of a £9.1 million investment from the Department for Education, and the College was one of just 62 further education institutions across the country to be successful in the bid for funding.
