Students Selected for the World Para Athletics Championships

Nine current and former Loughborough College students have been selected to compete as part of Team GB in the World Para Athletics Championships.

Hosted in Paris this August, the championships will see the best international athletes in multiple parasport classifications compete against each other, with the Colleges’ learners going up against the best in their fields.

Ranging from shotput to the 100m sprint, the talented individuals are excited by the opportunity to represent Great Britain and will use the skills, knowledge and training they’ve developed at the College to excel.

Barney Corrall, who is currently studying the BTEC in Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching, will be taking on the T37 Long Jump. He said: “I am honoured to be selected for Great Britain at the World Championships in Paris. I'm really looking forward to putting on the vest and going against the world's best.”

Founded in 1952, the World Championships are the biggest Paralympic Movement in terms of participants and countries represented.

As part of the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport Inclusion Hub, Loughborough College is one of the UK’s leaders in ensuring disabled learners have access to the same opportunities as their non-disabled peers.

Danny Lee, Curriculum Manager for Sport, added: “We are so proud to see these guys represent Team GB on the world stage! The whole of the sport department will be watching the championships and cheering on the athletes.”
