Electrical engineering students at Loughborough College learned critical insights into the power of heat pumps during a special series of talks from Panasonic.
The company’s Simon Brown delivered a range of talks to learners in the College’s Technology Centre explaining the energy efficiency of greener, cleaner heat pumps. Supported by Clive Archer of installer training specialist Optimum, students discovered the vast potential from learning how to install heating systems powered by electricity.
The fact no new homes should be connected to the gas grid from 2025, the alternative of heat pump technology from a low carbon source, enthused full-time students and apprentices studying electrical courses at Loughborough College.
Emma Weeks, a first-year JTL apprentice remarked, said: “This has opened my eyes to new opportunities once I’m a fully qualified electrician.”
Simon spoke about why heat pumps are technically and economically a viable dual option. Simon and Clive also gave the learners the chance to see the equipment in full operation.
Lewis Glenn also a first-year JTL apprentice added: “I enjoyed the fact that the presenter Simon Brown was very knowledgeable about the subject and made his talk specific to our course studies.”
With heat pumps being able to provide a large share of the nation’s future heat demand, the need for electricians to use their skills will be substantial. Coupled with the green credentials of this new technology, learners saw how they could play their part in helping save the planet.
