Students from Loughborough College are set to make their mark on the global stage as they compete in the upcoming 17th Paralympic Games in Paris.

Following on from a triumphant Olympic Games which saw Loughborough College athletes bring home a fantastic haul of medals, twenty-one talented alumni and students are set to represent Team GB in a variety of events, which kick off in Paris on Wednesday 28 August for 11 days.

Among the athletes heading to the Games is current student Thomas Young who will be competing in the T38 100m sprints. Having brought home the gold at the 2020 Tokyo Games, hopes are high that Thomas can defend his medal in France.

We are also proud to be represented in athletics by six other alumni who will compete in track and field events across the 11-day competition. T38 100m sprinter Sophie Hahn, who graduated from the College in 2018 has been a key player on the national team and is looking to complete a hattrick of gold medals, following on from her storming successes in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

The College will also be represented in Wheelchair Tennis by Abbie Breakwell and Dahnon Ward, both making their Paralympic debut. Up-and-comer Dahnon has already made headlines, winning the New York US Open double championship in both singles and doubles matches. Both Abbie and Dahnon are ready to compete against the best in the world, with high hopes for a podium finish.

Sharing her excitement for the upcoming Paralympic Games, Principal and CEO at Loughborough College, Corrie Harris said, “The Olympics and Paralympics are always a special time at Loughborough College, and the atmosphere has been fantastic as we support our learners and alumni on the world stage.

“We could not be any prouder of those heading to Paris to make history as Paralympic legends.”

Former Loughborough College students who have taken part in previous Paralympics include sprinter Libby Clegg, Para triathlete George Peasgood, and five-time gold medallist, Ellie Simmonds.
