NHS Worker Transforms personal wellbeing and stress management with College Health Programme

NHS consultant Lisa Etherington has credited Loughborough College's free and simple Step into Health programme for helping her to transform her personal wellbeing and stress management.  

After completing the course, Lisa said the experience had a “massive impact” on her life, prompting her to create a daily routine for physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. 

Lisa took part in the programme as part of her broader efforts to improve her mental health. Inspired and motivated to make a positive change, she went beyond the course requirements designing a personalised stress management and health plan that she implemented for several weeks. Her routine incorporated mindfulness exercises, mental wellness activities, and other strategies that she continues to follow today. 

Reflecting on her journey, Lisa shared her gratitude: “I have really enjoyed this course more than I could have imagined, and it has helped me change things in my life for the better.  

“This course is so simple but delivers a massive impact to anyone who wants change, so again thank you! I will be recommending this to anyone who needs it.” 

Step into Health course coordinator Linda York, was moved by Lisa’s feedback and praised her for taking control of her wellbeing. “I am really pleased to see Lisa’s strategies have become part of her life,” said Linda. “It’s wonderful that our course has so positively impacted her life, because speaking from the heart can be extremely impactful when encouraging others.” 

Linda emphasised that the simplicity of the course allows participants like Lisa to take charge of their own decisions, which is a key factor in its success, especially for those with family, work, and personal commitments “No one is telling you what to do, which can be a huge barrier for a lot of people.” she added. 

For Lisa, the benefits of the programme have been lasting. By integrating the strategies she learned into her daily life, she has seen improvements not only in stress management but also in her overall health and wellbeing.  

The Step into Health programme at Loughborough College is a free course that offers individuals an opportunity to develop practical strategies across three modules: physical activity and health, nutrition and healthy eating, and stress management. Step into Health is designed to be accessible and empowering for participants enabling them to incorporate the lessons into their routines.
