Posted: 13th April 2023 - 11:18am

The AoC (Association of Colleges) National Championships is a celebration of competitive sports in colleges across the country, providing a unique and exciting opportunity for students to compete at a national level.

Held at the University of Nottingham and local facilities across the weekend, the AoC National Championships is now entering its 43rd year and remains the largest annual FE student sporting event in the UK, with nearly 1,700 college students due to compete.

Colleges have been qualifying to represent their region at the Championships for months, through regional tournaments hosted throughout the autumn term.

Loughborough College will be the largest institution from the East Midlands at this year’s tournament, with students representing the college across eight different sports, including men’s and women’s rugby, women’s and pan ability football, netball, badminton, tennis & cross country running.

As well as facing off in their chosen sports, students will compete for points for their region. The region to accumulate the most points across the weekend will walk away with the prestigious Wilkinson Sword trophy.

Loughborough College’s Curriculum Manager for Sport, Danny Lee said:
“We are so proud to have so many of our learners competing on the national stage in the AoC Sport National Championships.

“They have already done incredibly well to win the regional heats and qualify for the largest annual student sporting event in Europe. Our athletes will be competing in eight different sports and we wish them all the very best of luck,”

Good luck to all the students competing! To learn more about the AoC Championships, visit their website
