Health and Social Care learners at Loughborough College recently had the chance to learn more about the world of healthcare through a special workshop.
Medical Mavericks, an organisation that sets out to inspire the next generation of medical professionals through their Mini Medics workshops, featured hands-on activities that gave students a glimpse into the health and social care field.
At the workshop, students had the opportunity to measure the diameter and circumference of blood vessels using an ultrasound machine, explore lung volumes and respiration rates, take fake blood, and record an ECG.
The students reported that their favourite part of the workshop was taking the fake blood from lifelike arms and using the ultrasound machine.
Curriculum Manager Sharon Geary said, “It was great for learners to explore the range of equipment and learn more about the healthcare field. They had a great time taking fake blood samples and using the ultrasound machine.”
All the students who attended said they found the workshops valuable and learned much about the healthcare field.
