Loughborough College Celebrates T Level Students Completing Their First Year

Posted: 6th July 2022 - 12:35pm

Loughborough College is marking the first anniversary of becoming one of the first providers in the country to offer innovative T Level qualifications and celebrating student successes.

In September 2021, Loughborough College began offering T Levels for 16-19 year olds, broadly equivalent in size to three A levels, that focus on technical and vocational skills. They help students into skilled employment, higher study or apprenticeships.

From September 2022, students will start learning in a new £2.6m state-of-the-art T Level Centre – specially designed to ensure T Levels become a staple of the education offered by Loughborough College.

There is a wide range of T Level subjects on offer already, in Digital Production, Design and Development; Education and Childcare; Electrical Installation and Health - Adult Nursing.

These pioneering new qualifications have been designed in collaboration with leading employers to provide the skills that businesses across the region need.

Radhika Raithatha, 17, from Leicester, is among the first cohort of T Level Health students at Loughborough College. After graduating, Radhika is hoping to go to university to study a nursing degree.

Radhika said: “The T Level has everything I need for the career I want to go into. What T Levels do that other courses don’t is show the clear career progression route. Most importantly for me, it offered a variety of modules and has a great balance of practical and theory. It suited my learning style much better than A Levels.”

, Principal & CEO at Loughborough College, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be celebrating the success of our first-ever T Level students this summer. We were among the first providers in the country to offer these brilliant new qualifications, and it has been fantastic to see how they have been embraced by young people. I’m excited to see our students build on their success next year and where they will move onto once they complete their courses - whether that be straight into the world of work, university or other post 18 options such as an apprenticeship.”

The subject areas on offer reflect some of the top business growth areas such as digital skills, health and social care and construction. From September 2022, courses in Business Management and Administration, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering will also be available to study at Loughborough.

T Levels are unique as they combine classroom study with industry placements so young people gain valuable work experience in their chosen sector.

Many local businesses including [enter local placement employers] are embracing T Levels as a great way to bring in new ideas and the latest skills, and a new way to find, nurture and secure young talent.
