It’s Touchdown on the Gridiron for Gabriel and Jon!

Thursday 9th May 2024

On Sunday 5 May, sports student Gabriel Butler-Clarke and College staff member Jon Wyse both played key roles in their respective teams’ triumphant victories at Walsall RFC.

On Sunday, Gabriel kitted up for his contact American Football team, the Sandwell Steelers U19s, as they faced the Chester Roman U19s. In the first quarter of the match, Gabriel scored a complex touchdown, leading the team to a storming 41-8 victory.

Gabriel Butler-Clarke is a student on both the BTEC Sport and Exercise Science Extended Diploma and the Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme at Loughborough College. As part of the British American Football Association’s Flag Football programme, Gabriel represents the Great Britain U17 team, who are preparing for the exciting European Championships in Serbia later this year.

Not to be outdone, Elite Sport Manager Jon kitted up for Staffordshire Surge, his team for over thirty years, and scored the Surge’s final touchdown on a 17-yard scamper in their 27-23 victory.

Jon oversees DiSE programmes that include flag football, golf, handball, snow sports, and volleyball. He has played American Football for over 30 years, representing both GB adults and students, and volunteers as a Coach Developer within the sport.

Both Gabriel and Jon look to be a key part of their respective team’s success as their seasons progress.
