Students and lecturers from Electrical Installation courses and apprenticeships had the chance to meet with some of the UK’s biggest industry names at the 2023 CEF Live Expo, held at Birmingham NEC earlier this month.
Learners were excited to explore the exhibits, make new connections, and even had the chance to speak with event host, Nick Knowles, star of long-standing BBC DIY series, DIY SOS. Students then enjoyed the rest of the day, comprised of CPD accredited Tech Talks and the opportunity to visit stands of over 85 leading brands.
Industry giants such as DeWalt, Milwaukee and Makita who have all visited Loughborough College in the past proved popular at the event, which focused on the future. Fascinating demonstrations, talks and exhibitions brought electricians up to speed with the latest regulations and the technology of tomorrow.
Second year learner John Patrick, who is an apprentice with College partner JTL enthused, “It was a worthwhile trip that will really help my career. I enjoyed learning about new products I had not seen before.”
Learners had the chance to attend industry focused Tech Talks, led by IET Head of Technical Regulations, Mark Coles. With a focus on energy efficiency, topics focused on environmental concerns, battery storage, thermal imaging, and power systems. Students also got to hear more about changes to industry amendments, key to the development of their future careers.
CEF Live is held every two years by City Electrical Factors who are a hands-on partner to the College. Their Loughborough-based branch gives much appreciated on-going support to our Electrical Installation students through trips, guest talks and manufacturers events.
Their next event will be held at Loughborough College in the new academic year, and will maintain the important theme of industry leading innovation, offering students and attendees the chance to explore upcoming technologies, find new career insights, and discover valuable networking opportunities.
