College teams claim victory in national and regional tournaments

Posted: 28th June 2022 - 2:52pm

Footballers and cricketers have flown the flag for Loughborough College after winning two major competitions.

The College’s Pan-Ability Football Academy were crowned national champions after winning the English Colleges Football Association National Pan-Ability Cup at Tamworth Football Club in June after winning all their games on the day.

Meanwhile, the Cricket Academy was crowned AoC Sport East Midlands T20 Cricket League champions after winning all five games this season. They will now go through to the regional knockout competition.

Earlier this year, the team won the indoor national championships in the first full year of the cricket academy programme.

Danny Lee, Curriculum in Further Education Sport, said: “It has been a fantastic way to end the academic year for our teams who have shown amazing dedication throughout the last 12 months.

“Our cricketers have been amazing to win the East Midlands title in their debut year. They’ve set the bar really high and I’m excited where they go next.

“As a Sport Inclusion Hub, I’m especially proud of the achievements of our pan-ability footballers who have flown the flag for disability sport with distinction at the college.”
